| | lonely | ] | It was sad to say goodbye to my parents yesterday. They have moved to Georgia to be with my youngest sister, her husband, and their two boys. I'd been helping my parents pack up their things over the past couple of weeks. It's wierd not having much family in the area any longer... A few have moved away and a few have passed away over the past couple of years.
My parents were always a nexus of family events... either hosting them or coordinating them. Now that they're gone, it feels a bit lonly. Sure, I can still chat with them any time I want; but I can't count on them being just a few towns over, can't count on any more family get-togethers, and can't count on any of the few other extended family members in the area.
C'est la vie. |

| Pimping out John |
[Jun. 24th, 2005|06:33 pm] |
Calling on Chicago boys!

Guys from Chicago should email John to say hi. Don't be shy! He's looking to meet people in Chicago in case he moves there next year.
John is 29 years old, 5'11", down-to-earth guy who like bears and cubs. John is one of the sweetest, most kind-hearted guys I've ever known. He's very easy to get along with and looks very cuddable, but unfortunately isn't prone to being a slutty whore.
John works for a telecommunications company, and likes working with lots of electronics toys... especially the kinds you have to plug in. I've heard he's a pro at sticking things into outlets.
John is of the male-dyke variety. Flannel is his favorite color and home improvement projects involving power tools are one of his favorite pastimes. Just like many dykes, he's fairly butch, has some muscles, has short hair, and has chin fuzz.
John's family has a place on a lake in New Hampshire and owns his own seadoo. In the summer he loves swimming, camping, tubing, water skiing, etc. John loves BBQing, good sirloin, baby back ribs, and most other kinds of meat. |

| Dark Vador is Bush! |
[May. 18th, 2005|10:28 am] |
My roommmate, </a></b></a> meatybear, mentioned that Lucas made Darth Vador resemble Bush. I found an article about it, but it was in French: La Libre. (all my computer systems at work are French or German) So I whipped up a translation.

George contre George, Lucas vs Bush

Cela me désole de voir qu'aujourd'hui,

George against George, Lucas vs Bush

The last episode of "Star Wars" that comes out everywhere Wednesday
was premiered worldwide.
It holds a surprise. Dark Vador is Bush!
A scuffle where rather an enormous compaction at the outskirts of the
palace. A triumphant rise of the steps has now entered Cannes mythology.
A very new trophy from Cannes has been given to George Lucas on "Queen
Mary".
The force is with the American Director but this one holds a surprise
in his last film "Star wars Episode III: the revenge of the Sith
". Indeed, when Anakin Skywalker switches to the dark side, he calls
on some to create an empire that guarantees justice and safety in the
world. He also threatens: "Those who are not with me are against
me". One cannot be any more clear, the future Dark Vador speaks exactly
like George Bush so that he transforms a democracy into a dictatorship.
When you can only ask George Lucas one question, it is obviously this:
Does he consider democracy in danger in the United States? Is this film
a warning? "Democracy is in danger everywhere" answers the author
of the saga. "If human beings are not worried about one another,
if the population is self-centered, its representatives will also be and
democracy can then be transformed into a dictatorship. It is enough to
use fear and to wait for an opportunity... They do not miss.
"I grew up in the 60s during the Vietnam war carried out by Nixon.
It worries me to see that today, the same errors are repeated. It is nevertheless
incredibly stupid, one generation later and you no longer remember anything.
Because frankly, if you looked well at it , I do not see many differences
between the Vietnam war and the war in Iraq. If the next president is
a Republican, I taking off to live in Australia... I am passionate about
history and it intrigues me. Why have men given up so easily on democracy
& their freedoms? How can a tyrant begin to seize power? Why did the
Roman Senate after having assassinated César did they make his
nephew an emperor? Why did Napoleon become emperor after the French revolution?
Why did the Germans give up their freedoms to Hitler? Today, the Americans
do not realize that they are less and less free."

| Giada De Laurentiis' gigantic head |
[Mar. 16th, 2005|02:46 pm] |
Giada De Laurentiis' gigantic head freaks me out... especially if she is wearing tight black clothes, then the camera looks slightly downward at her. FREEKY!
Dave was watching her show yesterday, writing down the recipe and didn't know if she used a 1/4 cup or a 1/2 cup of powdered sugar. I told him it looked like a 1/2 cup next to her torso, but it only looked like a 1/4 cup next to her head... turns out to be a 1/3 cup. |

| Can someone slow the ride down! |
[Jan. 26th, 2005|02:08 pm] |
Holy crap! Can someone slow the ride down! It's been crazy busy over the past couple of weeks!
My roommate, Dave meatybear, and I have been looking for someone to rent our place. A realtor contacted us about a couple from Syracuse who wanted to see it... So the guy and a friend came over to see the place. They loved it and wanted to fill out the forms right then and there, but the woman wasn't there. So, the realtor was going to have them fax the forms to her so she can review them and forward them to our landlady... well, drama ensued, the couple wanted to work directly with our landlady and cut the realtor out of the loop... drama, drama, drama... The couple are supposed to come over tonight to sign the lease and so the woman can look at the place.
Dave's B-day party + snow = a fantastic time! (pictures coming soon) Dave's b-day party was saturday as most of you know, since most of you were there. People started arriving around 6:30 and by 8 just about everyone was wrecked. thefatrooster, landscapebear, indeterminacy, & kmon stayed the night... (as well as meatybear and murphy). There were bodies everywhere. We woke up to landscapebear making a FANTASTIC breakfast. This guy can cook! meatybear has more details. It was nice to meet some new friends!
Dave and I now have to go into full packing mode to get everything done. Hopefully I'll have my room mostly packed tonight and we can start on the kitchen and living room. We're planning on moving Monday morning.
Dave thinks he's coming down with a cold, and I think I might be coming down with one, too... we stocked up on Zinc, echinacea, vitamins, etc. This is NOT a good time to get sick! |

| Tsunami Aid: A concert of hope |
[Jan. 15th, 2005|10:26 pm] |
Dave and I went over to Keith's for dinner tonight and on TV we found Tsunami Aid: A concert of hope.
It is horrible what has happened, but one of the celebrities did let us know that at least one sewing factory is open again. Pfew! I'm so glad the world of couture won't be severely affected.
Did anyone else see this? I do hope they raised a lot of money... I know they raised well over 1.5 million dollars... one person donated a million and some online poker gaming site donated $400000. |

LiveJournal was down for quite a long time starting last night around 11:30pm ET due to a massive power failure at their data center.
LJ wanted to be very responsible and choose a system that is supposed to have multiple redundancies, including redundant backup power. Well, Internap doesn't seem to be all that. Apparently this has happened at least twice with LJ through Internap. Sounds like Internap has basically lied about it's services.
Even better news is that President Bush named Internap CEO Greg Peters to the National Infrastructure Advisory Council to advise him on security of information systems supporting the nation's critical infrastructure. Great! Bush appoints someone who is in charge of a company that doesn't deliver on their guarantees. Is this powerloss a glimpse into the future of the information systems that support the nation's critical infrastructure?
Comcast here in the Boston area has been having issues with a powersurge. Phone, Cable, and Internet access has been up and down all day. A constant and consistent powersupply is necessary for these systems, so is Comcast lying and it really isn't a 'powersurge', or this major cable company doesn't have surge protectors or adequate surge protectors?
The sky is falling, the sky is falling!! |

[Jan. 6th, 2005|02:32 pm] |
|
As many of you know, my roommate, meatybear, and I are looking for someone to take over the lease to our apartment in Watertown.
The apartment is available Feb. 1st. Thought I'd throw this up on LJ. Please tell everyone, especially anyone who expresses the slightest desire to find a new place! If you're cute and you rent the place, I'd be willing to be your sex slave for a while.
Apartment in excellent condition • Spacious 2 bedrooms • Living room • Large kitchen • Bathroom • All hardwood floors • New windows • Parking spot • Visitor parking
Excellent central location: Aldrich Road. Near Watertown Square, just off Galen Street. About 1 minute from the Pike, 10 minutes to downtown, 20 minutes to Framingham. 2 minute walk to many bus lines to Boston, Harvard Sq., Central Sq., etc.
Short term lease is available Feb 1st to Aug. 31st, and then can be renewed WITHOUT a rent increase for 12 months. The rent is $1300/month, utilities not included, but heat is gas and fairly inexpensive.

| Happy New Year |
[Jan. 3rd, 2005|12:45 am] |
This was a fun New Years' evening. Around 5:30pm, I went over to a friend's house. John and his boyfriend, rowdyrufcub, cooked an amazing, amazing dinner. I spent a few hours there eating, chatting, and watching some TV with them. Sometime after 10, they dropped me off at my place and they headed off to some friends' apartment.
I walked in the apartment to my roommate and 3 other people in their PJs. My roommate, Dave, meatybear, was wearing his PJs. Andy, thefatrooster, was wearing spaghetti strap top and a pair of "smart" bottoms. Paul, puckbear, was wearing a formal set of PJs, and his boyfriend Chris was wearing some boxers. They told me I had to wear what I normally wear to bed. So, of course I had to kick it down a notch... I threw on a jockstrap.

I think Dave rolled his eyes a few times, but the other guys seemed to like it quite a bit... er, that is, they weren't completely revolted.
They were in the middle of watching Anchorman, so we finished watching that. Just after the movie, I threw on some boxers just to make dave feel a bit less uncomfortable. A few minutes later, dave looks a bit less uncomfortable, so I whip off my boxers to reveal my jock again.
So, at midnight, I was toasting people in a jockstrap. I hope that means something for the coming year.
